Troubleshooting
If your computer freezes, crashes, or has trouble booting up, it's likely that you're experiencing hardware failure. Rent-A-Guru can diagnose and repair hardware issues at the base rate of $39 for a half-hour of labor (this is the typical charge, but it may be exceeded depending on how involved the repair is). When you check in your computer, make sure you are as detailed as possible when recounting the problem and what you were doing when it happened. Once we diagnose the problem, we will call you with quotes (see below) and repair information along with a price update.
Upgrades/Replacements
U Rent-a-Guru can also order hardware components such as hard drives, memory, video cards, and network cards and install them for you at the base rate listed below + the cost of the component.
Memory options:
The installation charge is $25, plus the cost of the memory.
Graphics/Video cards and optical drive options:
The installation charge is $35, plus the cost of the hardware.
Hard drive options:
The installation charge is $35, plus the cost of the hardware (NOTE: This flat fee excludes the Apple iBooks, which require approximately 1 hour of labor. The hourly rate will apply for iBook hard drive installations). Hard drive installation includes installing, initializing and testing the hard drive, and does not include reinstalling your operating system or saving/transferring your data.

If possible, would you like U Rent-a-Guru to back-up your data from your old hard drive, save it on our server, and transfer your data to the new hard drive? This service is available for $59.

Would you like U Rent-a-Guru to reinstall your operating system on your new hard drive? Provide your operating system CD and Product Key #. Reinstalling the operating system is available for a flat fee.

Would you like U Rent-a-Guru to reinstall software on your new hard drive? Provide us with your software CDs and registration information (e.g. Microsoft Office), and we will install software for you.
LCD replacements:
U Rent-a-Guru will only replace LCD screens if they can be ordered directly from the manufacturer or a trusted source. Usually we can tell you if we can do this when you bring it in. These replacements are done at the hourly rate.
Other upgrade installations will be billed at the hourly rate.
