Gopher Messaging: Voicemail and More

Gopher Messaging offers many enhancements over a basic voicemail system. In addition to voice messages, it can process text-based messages and faxes. When messages arrive, you can choose when and how to receive notifications. You can listen to messages and manage the basic settings through your telephone. The Web-based component of Gopher Messaging offers more advanced features that you can manage from your computer.

We offer free voicemail guides and orientations to the University community.

If you have forgotten your voicemail password or need to set one, please call 1-HELP. Upon proper verification, the helpline consultant will give you a temporary password that will allow you to log in and set a password of your choice. Note that the system maintains separate phone and Web passwords for your voice mailbox; changing one does not automatically change the other. The voicemail Web password is not your Internet password.

Telephone User Guides

Our telephone guides explain the features available on each of the five telephone models we support. Learn how to use abbreviated dialing, transfer, hold; how to change the display and ringer settings; and more.

Long Distance

Long distance calls may be placed from certain University phones, depending on the dialing capabilities requested by the department that ordered the phone line. You may call 1-HELP to inquire about your phone. Calling may be restricted to the University, local cities, national or international destinations. Departments may order a UPAC code to allow an employee to dial long distance from any University telephone. Prepaid calling cards that dial into a toll-free number are another option on phones that allow only local dialing.

Conference Calls

Three-way conference calling is a standard feature of the University telephone system. Please consult the appropriate telephone guide for specific instructions for your phone model.

Digital telephones (models ITE12 and ITE30) with a CONF feature button can establish calls of up to seven parties. This feature comes with a fee, and may be ordered online.

The Conference Operator can establish a conference call for you if you require more parties than the maximum allowed. A fee applies to this service.

We also offer options for video and multimedia conferencing.

Order Voice Service: Install, Change, Disconnect

Departments and college units may order voice and data services online. View the University-provided telephone models to determine which one suits your needs. Service delivery rates are available online to help you determine costs in advance.

Students in University-owned residence halls are provided with a phone line and dial tone, but are responsible for their own phone equipment.

The Service Gateway is a new system for requesting networking and telecommunications services. It is being developed to allow our customers to have better control over their network resources and to provide live help online. A project is currently under way to bring departments into the Service Gateway.

Operate a Call Center

To order any of these telephone services, please use the online service order form and choose "Other Services".

Toll-free ("800") incoming calls. A toll-free line allows your department to pay for long distance charges that would otherwise need to be paid by the caller. Calls are routed to a new or existing University telephone number.

Automatic call distribution (ACD). ACD uses special software to queue calls and distribute them among available staff. ACD reports can be arranged to allow you to monitor your queues and gather statistics.

Automated attendant. An auto-attendant can provide touch-tone "phone tree" menus to help direct calls to the appropriate line. It can also direct calls according to a schedule; for example, after-hours calls can be sent to a special line.
